Variable
Speed Drive for Vacuum Pump
Description:
Reduce energy use and cut the money spent on electricity with the Variable Speed
Drive for vacuum pumps from BouMatic.
Now, dairy producers can significantly cut energy costs by equipping
their vacuum pump with a variable speed drive from BouMatic. The
variable speed drive can speed up or slow down the vacuum pump
to produce just the amount of airflow needed at any point during
milking or cleaning. On-farm trials have produced electrical savings
of up to 60 percent when using a vacuum pump equipped with a variable
speed drive.
Wasted Energy - Constant-speed vacuum pumps turn
out much more airflow than is required for milking or for cleaning
a milking system. Traditionally, one or more vacuum pumps are used
to produce a minimum constant airflow of six-cfm (170 L/min) per
milking unit.
More Airflow than Needed is Often Used - Recent
scientific research has determined that the amount of air-flow
actually used for "steady state" milking - when all milking
units are attached without any squawking teat cups or air leaks
- is as little as 1 to 2 cfm (30 to 60 L/min) per unit. Even a
superb, sanitary cleaning of the milking system requires only 2
to 2.5 cfm (60 to 70 L/min) per milking unit, if the CIP system
is properly set and balanced.
Sometimes, Additional Airflow is Needed - There
are times during milking when additional airflow is required, such
as when attaching units, when there is a squawking liner, or when
a milking unit falls off. There are also times during the cleaning
of the milking system when additional airflow is needed, such as
when an air injector admits atmospheric air into the milk line
to form a "wash slug".
New Standards are Introduced - Through research
and on-farm tests, the ASAE (American Society of Agricultural Engineers)
and the ISO (International Standards Organization) revised their
standards to reflect new scientific knowledge. This new knowledge
shows it is no longer necessary to run a vacuum pump at a constant
speed to produce the maximum amount of airflow needed for only
short periods.
Safety - CSA, UL, or CE certified controllers
- the proof of safety and quality from around the world.
Features:
- On-farm
trials have produced electrical savings of more than 60%.
- Quieter operation. A vacuum pump equipped with a BouMatic
variable speed drive will frequently operate at one-half the
RPM's that
it would be running at if it were not equipped with a variable
speed
drive. When a vacuum pump operates at slower speeds, it is
quieter.
- Two-year warranty - proven technology provides peace of mind.
- Electronic
noise shield is built into the controller so the VSD operation
will not interfere with computerized systems' electronic
communications.
- Reduced wear on vacuum pump by lowered RPM's.
- A system switch provides
the option to switch between variable speed and constant
speed operation.
- CSA, UL, or CE certified controllers - the proof of
safety and quality from around the world.
- The BouMatic VSD
controller can be installed to operate a second, stand-by vacuum
pump.
